Axial: https://linktr.ee/axialxyz
Axial partners with great founders and inventors. We invest in early-stage life sciences companies such as Appia Bio, Seranova Bio, Delix Therapeutics, Simcha Therapeutics, among others often when they are no more than an idea. We are fanatical about helping the rare inventor who is compelled to build their own enduring business. If you or someone you know has a great idea or company in life sciences, Axial would be excited to get to know you and possibly invest in your vision and company . We are excited to be in business with you - email us at info@axialvc.com
Gerty and Carl Cori won the Nobel Prize for discovering the lactic acid cycle, known as the Cori Cycle. They advanced how the body produces & stores energy forming the basis for current diabetes treatments. And showing the clarity of chemistry can be used to unveil opaque biology.
The Cori Cycle is metabolic pathway where lactate (from anaerobic glycolysis) moves from the muscles to the liver, converted back to glucose, returning back to the muscles to get metabolized back into lactate.
The Cori’s met while at the University of Prague, marrying in 1920, & immigrated to the US in 1922. Their first joint paper was a study of the complement of human serum. In 1936, they isolated isolated glucose-1-phosphate, known as the Cori ester https://www.acs.org/education/whatischemistry/landmarks/carbohydratemetabolism.html
Six years later they isolated/purified glycogen phosphorylase, responsible for catalyzing the glycogen-Cori ester reaction and synthesized glycogen in 1943 allowing them to formulate the Cori Cycle https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/medicine/1947/summary/
